The internet is mourning the loss of a beloved and feared icon: Duolingo’s Duo owl. In a dramatic revelation, the Duolingo account on X confirmed that Duo’s cause of death was a fatal encounter with Tesla’s Cybertruck. The tragic event was captured in a video showing the green mascot being struck before dramatically ascending to the afterlife.
Duolingo wasted no time rallying the public for answers. “UPDATE: Reward for whoever can identify the driver. Please post any leads on Twitter,” the account posted, urging the internet to put on their detective hats.
The language-learning giant issued an official statement on Feb. 11, solemnly announcing, “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formally known as the Duolingo Owl, is dead.” It also reassured users that authorities are investigating.
As expected, the internet ran wild with theories. Under the video with the Cybertruck, users began pointing fingers at high-profile suspects, including Drake, MrBeast, and even Elon Musk himself. Could the Tesla CEO be responsible for an avian hit-and-run? Was this a targeted attack to finally end Duo’s reign of passive-aggressive lesson reminders?
Meanwhile, pop star Dua Lipa weighed in on the tragedy, that personally affected her, posting on X: “’Til death duo part.”
The loss has left a major question unanswered: Who will now keep us accountable for our Spanish lessons?
As the investigation continues, one thing is certain—Duo may be gone, but his guilt-inducing spirit will live on in every unfinished lesson.
