Jook Sing recently opened in West Town at 1329 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago. The inspiration for the restaurant comes from Southeast Asia, where people can find lively night markets and street food. According to the restaurant's website, Jook Sing refers to individuals of Asian descent born in Western countries and the term carries a sense of endearment and celebration of cultural fusion.
The restaurant promises a culinary experience celebrating the region's diverse flavors, tastes, and textures. Chef Partner Mike McCants shares in a press release from Jook Sing, "As a kid, I was a second-generation immigrant, and most of my friends were too. I loved going to parties at their homes because it allowed me to experience diverse cultures, savor different foods, and hear different languages. Despite being in America, traditions and celebration styles would vary based on our origins. Whether it was a Quinceañera, a Bar Mitzvah, or the Lunar New Year, that joyful and familiar vibe, infused with a unique energy, is exactly what Jook Sing embodies."
Jook Sing’s location offers a casual and comfortable ambiance. Diners will enjoy the warm and energetic atmosphere amidst a symphony of colors. There will be neon lights, paper lanterns, and string lights, creating an image that blends an ever-changing tapestry of hues.
Guests will find unique and creative dishes, such as the "Jook Sing Internet," on the menu. This is a playful twist on the Indonesian Warkops, small family-owned cafés in Indonesia. The dish features Indomie, Telor (Egg), Kornet (corned beef), gai lan, napa cabbage, housemade sambal, and various Asian herbs. Chef Christian Sia explains, "We aim to create a harmonious blend of cultures, embracing the spirit of shared dining as guests embark on a gastronomic adventure, savoring diverse dishes that come together to create an unforgettable experience."
The bar program will also compliment the restaurant's energetic vibe. Customers can enjoy hand-crafted and refreshing riffs on classics and original herbal concoctions with fresh ingredients and vibrant colors.
Jook Sing is open Tuesday to Thursday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. to midnight. For more information, visit jooksing312.com or call 312.624.8029
