One person is dead and six others are missing after a luxury yacht was struck by a tornado and sank off the coast of Sicily early Monday morning. According to the Associated Press and Italian authorities, British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among the missing.
Rescue efforts are reportedly in progress, and divers have reached the yacht's hull, submerged 49 meters (160 feet) below sea level, according to the AP. 15 passengers have been successfully rescued.
The 56-meter yacht "Bayesian," had a mainly British group of passengers and crew members, according to the AP. Guests came from various countries, including France, New Zealand, Ireland, and Sri Lanka.
The UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) is dispatching a team of inspectors to Palermo to investigate the incident. The date when the MAIB will reach Sicily has not been revealed.
Mike Lynch, the missing British entrepreneur, has faced legal issues since selling his company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011, according to the AP.
