Congress Investigates UFOs Key Testimonies and UAP Insights

As reported by USA Today, congressional leaders are investigating reports of unidentified flying objects entering U.S. airspace. They suspect the military may have secretly recovered these mysterious crafts to study and potentially advance their technological capabilities.

On Nov. 20, according to USA Today, a new group of witnesses gave fresh testimony about UFO concerns during a joint hearing by subcommittees of the House Oversight Committee. The hearing lasted over two hours and was part of Congress's ongoing investigation into UFOs. This hearing followed another round of testimony in July 2023, continuing the discussion and exploration of these issues.

The congressional hearing, titled "Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth," used the official government term UAP instead of UFO. Witnesses emphasized that these mysterious phenomena occur not just in the air but also in water, challenging traditional understanding of unexplained sightings.

USA Today reported that legislators have spent the past year developing new proposals to enhance transparency around these encounters. Some proposed laws would create a civilian reporting mechanism, while others aim to compel the executive branch to declassify specific government records about UAP.

Despite these efforts, elected officials and transparency advocates remain skeptical, arguing that the current legislative approaches need to be revised to thoroughly investigate and understand these strange and potentially significant aerial and maritime events.

According to findings shared by USA Today, U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R - South Carolina)  said in her opening speech that the hearing was needed to push for openness from government leaders who have kept UFO information secret. She criticized the Defense Department, saying their hidden ways do not make people trust them.

According to The New York Times, Michael Shellenberger, a journalist and founder of Public, a news outlet on the Substack platform, shared a new story about a secret UAP program that started in 2017 after another news report about a hidden Pentagon project. Shellenberger said his sources told him that intelligence groups have a lot of pictures and other information about these strange flying objects. He believes these groups are holding back important details that people want to know about unexplained sightings in the sky and sea.

According to USA Today, NASA’s report released in September has drawn criticism from Michael Gold, a former NASA administrator, who believes the agency should do more. He argued that investing more in UAP research would send a strong message to the scientific community that UAPs deserve serious attention.

Gold, who is also a member of an independent NASA UAP study team, acknowledged that many UAPs can be explained as drones or weather events. However, he emphasized the need for better equipment explicitly designed to study these phenomena for the few reports that can't be easily explained. This would help avoid relying on cellphones or fighter jet cockpit cameras to capture these events.
