On the evening of Tuesday, April 11, the American Writers Museum put on a lively spectacle with their “Get (Green) Lit” happy hour. To bring this month’s theme of sportswriting to life, the museum created a 9-hole mini golf course around their various exhibits.

Eighty guests came out to celebrate a love of writing while experiencing the excitement of putt-putt. Like any good game of golf, players were able to cool off during their round with a refreshing beverage. The popular specialty cocktail for the evening was “The Sandtrap” — a spiked Arnold Palmer, better known as a “John Daly” after the famously beer-toting PGA golfer.

Guests lined up for a signed copy of A Course Called America, a New York Times bestseller by golf writer and author Tom Coyne. During his speech, Tom spoke on his journey of becoming what he called an “accidental golf writer” and his experience playing the game.

Mini golfers who completed an entire round on the 9-hole course were entered into a raffle. Three lucky winners won prizes that included a KOVAL Distillery Tour Pass with complimentary admission for two people, a $250 gift card to Five Iron Golf, and two tickets to the Sofar Sounds performance in May at the American Writers Museum.

For those who missed out this month, the American Writers Museum hosts “Get Lit” happy hours each month on the second Tuesday. Be sure to catch the next one on Tuesday, May 9, which will be a memoir-themed “Me, Myself and I” happy hour. Stay tuned to their calendar for all of the museum’s upcoming events.
