Google is set to launch its first retail store in the Midwest at Oakbrook Center, a prominent suburban shopping mall in Chicago. According to a Chicago Business Journal report, the store will span 2,000 square feet and officially opens its doors on Friday, November 1. This location marks Google's debut store inside a shopping mall in addition to being its first in the Midwest.
A press release by the organization stated that the Oakbrook store promises an immersive experience, allowing customers to interact with Google products such as Pixel phones, watches, tablets, and Nest cameras, as well as explore services and AI perks offered by Google. A report by NBC Chicago details how this new retail location will provide a dedicated space for consumers to try out and purchase Google's tech offerings. The store will also host experts available to assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
Google's Midwest entry aligns with its strategic expansion plan to open more stores across various regions, noted Liz Bagot, a Google spokesperson, in an article by Chicago Business Journal. "We’re continually exploring different ways to reach our customers, which is why we chose to open a store in a shopping center outside of a major city," said Bagot. The tech giant also conveyed customer feedback influences their store location decisions.
Besides the new retail store, Google has a significant presence in Chicago, with a 550,000-square-foot office in the Fulton Market District. According to a press release, the Oakbrook Center store will add to Google's portfolio of retail locations, which include stores in New York, California, and Massachusetts.
Operating hours for the Oakbrook store will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The store will offer an option for online purchases with in-store pickup, enhancing customer convenience.
