Amazon intends to “open 100 buildings this month alone,” according to Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Dave Clark.

Amazon announced today that it would hire new employees to fill more than 100,000 open jobs throughout the U.S. and Canada and, according to several media reports, over 5,000 of them will be in Chicago.

Described in a press release as “regular employment opportunities,” the positions are in addition to the 33,000 corporate and technology jobs that the company announced last week.

“On top of Amazon’s minimum $15 wage, the company offers full-time employees health, vision and dental insurance from day one, 401(k) with 50% company match, up to 20 weeks paid parental leave, and Amazon’s innovative Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields,” the release continued.

Amazon’s Chicago office is located in the AT&T Building at 227 W. Monroe St. Its recruitment site currently lists 131 full-time and five part-time jobs in the city. The other 5,000+ opportunities will presumably be in nearby facilities like the 24-hour Amazon Delivery Station at 2801 S. Western Ave.

The company also intends to “open 100 buildings this month alone,” according to Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Dave Clark, who added that “expansion also comes with an unwavering commitment to safety.”
