Approximately 2,010 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken products have been recalled by Canada-based Al-Safa US LLC due to a possible listeria outbreak, according to an announcement from The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The FSIS reportedly discovered the contamination during routine testing. According to the announcement, the products were manufactured in Canada and shipped to retailers across the United States.
According to the FSIS, the chicken recall impacts 12.1-oz. packages of "Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab" and 14.11-oz. packages of "Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty." Both products have "NOV 30 25" and establishment number 866 on the exterior of their packages.
So far no infections have been linked to the products, according to the FSIS, but consumers are advised to dispose of the products or return them to the place of purchase.
Symptoms of listeria infection include nausea, aches, vomiting, fever, and diahrrea. The bacteria can potentially impact the nervous system, leading to meningitis or other complications. Listeria infection poses an elevated threat to vulnerable groups including pregnant women, children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
