Canadian actor Donald Sutherland has passed away at age 88.
Sutherland’s son, fellow actor Keifer Sutherland confirmed his father’s passing in a post on Twitter/X Thursday afternoon. According to CNN, Sutherland’s passing came after a “long illness”.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” read Sutherland’s post.
“I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
Across a career spanning seven decades, Sutherland became known for his roles in the TV series M.A.S.H, and films including Kelly’s Heroes and Animal House. To the younger generations, Sutherland was best known for his role as President Snow in the hugely popular Hunger Games series.
According to the Associated Press (AP), Sutherland appeared in almost 200 films and series throughout his career.
