USA Today verified with the U.S. Postal Service that post offices will maintain regular hours and deliver mail on Dec. 31. The publication also confirmed with major banks including Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, and CitiBank that they will be open on New Year's Eve. PNC specifically told USA Today that its branches will close at 4 p.m. local time on Dec. 31, while other banks will maintain regular hours.
Regarding shipping services, UPS's website indicates limited service availability on New Year's Eve. Air and International Air pickup services require prearrangement by Dec. 26, while Ground service pickup is unavailable on Dec. 31 alhough Air and International Air delivery services will operate, Ground service delivery won't be available. According to USA Today, FedEx's website states that most pickup and delivery services will run on Dec. 31, though FedEx Office locations may have early closing times. Their Custom Critical service remains available year-round, with support at 1-800-762-3787.
The stock market will operate normally on New Year's Eve before closing on New Year's Day. USA Today advises checking with local bank branches and shipping service locations for specific holiday hours to avoid unnecessary trips.
While most retail stores, restaurants, and grocery chains will maintain regular operations on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, banking and postal services will follow modified schedules due to the federal holiday on Jan. 1.
