The Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana's $300 million casino and entertainment destination opens Friday, May 14, at 5 pm. (5400 W. 29th Ave. Gary, Indiana) The 200,000-square-foot complex includes a massive gaming space, five food venues and an onsite sports-book, a retail shop and a 1,954-seat Hard Rock Live performance venue. A 200-room Hard Rock Hotel will be completed in 2022.
The Royal Family of Music--the Jacksons (who live in Gary)--are featured prominently throughout the property and will be honored during the VIP opening Thursday night. The 37-foot-tall guitar marquee at the entrance is modeled after Joseph Jackson's famous guitar that changed the world and was the start of the Jackson 5. Also on display are over 170 pieces of music memorabilia including Michael's iconic glove, his red jacket from the Beat It video, Janet Jackson's suit from her Velvet Rope tour and so much more, including items from Elvis, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Pharrel and others.
VIPs scheduled to attend opening night include Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson, Kym Mazelle, Crystal Tailefero, Denise Williams, Chi-Lites' Marshall Thompson, the Kinsey Brothers (Ken and Donald) and more.
