NASCAR announced that Daniel’s Amigos, a community initiative hosted by Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez, will take place at Chicago's Harrison Park on Thursday, June 20, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Suárez, known for being the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race, aims to engage the Hispanic community with the sport through this event.
Daniel’s Amigos will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including performances by Rosalba Valdez y Los Valientes, Mariachi Tesoro de México, and DJ Momami. Attendees can enjoy a Kids Zone, racing simulators, and a fireside chat with Suárez, where he will discuss his career and NASCAR’s diversity efforts.
The event will showcase local Hispanic food vendors such as La Calaca Food Truck, Casera’s Sabor, Delicias, 5411 Empanadas, and Paleta Factory. Local businesses like Mestiza Shop and The Resurrection Project will also participate, alongside the National Museum of Mexican Art.
Started in 2019, Daniel’s Amigos aims to increase awareness, access, and engagement with NASCAR among the Hispanic community, while generating excitement around race weekends. The event is free and open to the public, with activities suitable for children ages four and up. More information and RSVP options are available at www.danielsamigos.com.
Julie Giese, President of the Chicago Street Race, emphasized the event’s role in connecting NASCAR with the Chicago community, highlighting Suárez's previous impactful visit with Chicago Public Schools students. This year’s Daniel’s Amigos event will lead up to the Chicago Street Race Weekend, scheduled for July 6-7, 2024, at Grant Park.
The race weekend will feature performances by Keith Urban, The Chainsmokers, The Black Keys, Lauren Alaina, and a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Chicago House music. The Chainsmokers' Saturday evening set will include a special appearance with Cup Series drivers.
NASCAR also introduced Youth General Admission Pricing for the 2024 Chicago Street Race Weekend, offering free admission for children 12 and under on July 6, and $45 Youth GA tickets for the NASCAR Cup Series race on July 7.
