The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) has announced an exciting new exhibition coming this summer as part of its Chicago Works series, which highlights local artists shaping the contemporary art landscape.

Shimmer on the Horizons will feature multimedia works from visionary Chicago-based artist Andrea Carlson from August 3, 2024, through February 2, 2025.

The show marks the artist’s first solo museum exhibition in Chicago, making her the 22nd artist to participate in the MCA’s Chicago Works series.

According to a statement from the MCA, Carlson’s work “Considers how landscapes are shaped by memory, history, and power.” Through her chosen mediums of painting, sculpture, and video, Carlson explores themes of colonialism, indigenous sovereignty, and her Native American cultural heritage.

To celebrate the exhibition’s opening, Carlson will join MCA curatorial associate Iris Colburn for a discussion at the museum’s commons on August 3, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. Visit the MCA’s official site to learn more about Shimmer on the Horizons and other exciting exhibitions coming to the museum.
